The King is Come (Messiah)
His was a ministry unlike no other…The world did not know
what to think of, or how to respond to Him
He, along with John the Baptist introduced baptism and
repentance, proclaiming – “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! (Mat.
3:2).
5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all
the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 and
were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins (Mat. 3:5-6).
He cast out demons:
·
Mark 1:23-28 23 Now
there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried
out, 24 saying, “Let us alone! What
have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us?
I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
25 But
Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 And
when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice,
he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed,
so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What
new doctrine is this?
For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey
Him.” 28 And immediately His fame spread
throughout all the region around Galilee.
He healed many people:
·
Mark 1:32-34 32 At
evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those
who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was
gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed
many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and
He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.
·
Mark 1: 40-42 40 Now a
leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If
You are willing, You can make me clean.”
41 Then Jesus, moved
with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him,
and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 As
soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was
cleansed.
·
Mark 3: 1-5 And He entered the
synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 So
they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath,
so that they might accuse Him. 3 And He said to the
man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.” 4 Then
He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to
save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. 5 And
when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by
the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your
hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was
restored as whole as the other.
He stilled the Sea
·
Mark 4:35-41 On the same day, when
evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other
side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took
Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with
Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat
into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He
was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to
Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
39 Then He arose
and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be
still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But
He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that
you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and
said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey
Him!”
He fed 5000 with 5 loaves and two fish
·
Mark 6: 36-42 Send them away, that they
may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread;
for they have nothing to eat.” 37 But He answered and said to
them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall
we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to
eat?” 38 But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have?
Go and see.” And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then
He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green
grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in
fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the
two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and
gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two
fish He divided among them all. 42 So
they all ate and were filled.
He even walked on water
·
Mark 6: 48-51
Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them.
Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea,
and would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw
Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for
they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and
said to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not
be afraid.” 51 Then He went up into the boat to them,
and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond
measure, and marveled.
His greatest miracle was perhaps raising a man from the
dead
·
John 11:38-39, 43-44 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came
to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus
said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said
to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four
days.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a
loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had
died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was
wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
Would you believe that for all the good Jesus did, the
people rejected Him?
·
John 1:11 (CEV) He came into his own
world, but his own nation did not welcome him
Song:
·
Matthew 12:14 Then the Pharisees went out
and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Things began to fall apart for
Jesus!
·
Mark 3:2 So they watched Him
closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they
might accuse Him.
His friends and family opposed Him
·
Mark 3:21-22 But when
His own people heard about this, they went out to lay
hold of Him, for they said, “He is out of His mind.”
·
22 And the scribes who
came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebub,” and, “By the ruler
of the demons He casts out demons.”
They murdered His cousin John
·
Mark 6: 27-29 Immediately the king sent an
executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him
in prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and
gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When
his disciples heard of it, they came and took away his
corpse and laid it in a tomb.
Even His disciples were having a hard time understanding
Him and His message
·
Mark 8:17b- 18
Don't you know or understand yet? Are your minds so dull? You have
eyes--can't you see? You have ears--can't you hear? Don't you remember?
Then, Jesus tells his followers that He is going to die –
He predicts His death
·
Mark 8: 31- "The Son of Man will be
handed over to those who will kill him. Three days later, however, he will rise
to life." But they did not understand what this teaching meant,
and they were afraid to ask him.
He makes His way to Jerusalem
·
Mark 11: 7 – 10
They brought the colt to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the animal, and
Jesus got on. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut
branches in the field and spread them on the road. The people who were in front
and those who followed behind began to shout, "Praise God! God bless him who
comes in the name of the Lord!
The plot to kill Him intensifies
·
Mark 14:1-2
It was now two days before the Festival of Passover and Unleavened
Bread. The chief priests and the teachers of the Law were looking for a way to
arrest Jesus secretly and put him to death. "We must not do it during the
festival," they said, "or the people might riot."
Mary anoints Him with oil – preparing for His death
·
Mark 14:3 While Jesus was eating, a woman
came in with an alabaster jar full of a very expensive perfume made of pure
nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus' head.
His friend and disciple Judas betrays Him
·
Mark 14: 10 -11 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the
twelve disciples, went off to the chief priests in order to betray Jesus to
them. They were pleased to hear what he had to say, and promised to give
him money. So Judas started looking for a good chance to hand Jesus over to
them.
He spends time with his disciples at their Last Supper
·
Mark 14: 22-26
22While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a
prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. “Take it,” he said,
“this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks to God, and handed it to
them; and they all drank from it. Jesus said, “This is my blood which is
poured out for many, my blood which seals God's covenant. I tell you, I
will never again drink this wine until the day I drink the new wine in the
Kingdom of God.” Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
He prays for strength
·
Mark 14: 35-36 He went a little farther on,
threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might not have to
go through that time of suffering. “Father,” he prayed, “my Father! All
things are possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet not
what I want, but what you want.”
He is betrayed
·
Mark 14:45-46 As soon as Judas arrived, he went
up to Jesus and said, “Teacher!” and kissed him. So they arrested
Jesus and held him tight. As soon as Judas arrived, he went up to Jesus and
said, “Teacher!” and kissed him. 46So they arrested Jesus and held him tight.
He is taken and put to trial
·
Mark 14: 53, 60-64 Then Jesus was taken to the High Priest's
house, where all the chief priests, the elders, and the teachers of the Law
were gathering. The High Priest stood up in front of them all and questioned
Jesus, “Have you no answer to the accusation they bring against you?” But Jesus
kept quiet and would not say a word. Again the High Priest questioned him, “Are
you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed God?”
“I am,” answered Jesus, “and you will all see the Son of Man seated at
the right side of the Almighty and coming with the clouds of heaven!” The High
Priest tore his robes and said, “We don't need any more witnesses! You heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?”
They all voted against him: he was guilty and should be put to death.
He is beaten and mocked
·
Mark 15:16-20
The soldiers took Jesus inside to the courtyard of the governor's palace
and called together the rest of the company. They put a purple robe on
Jesus, made a crown out of thorny branches, and put it on his head. Then
they began to salute him: “Long live the King of the Jews!” They beat him
over the head with a stick, spat on him, fell on their knees, and bowed down to
him. When they had finished making fun of him, they took off the purple
robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
He is crucified
·
Matthew 27: 35-39 They crucified him and then divided his
clothes among them by throwing dice. After that they sat there and watched
him. 37Above his head they put the written notice of the accusation
against him: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” Then they crucified
two bandits with Jesus, one on his right and the other on his left. People
passing by shook their heads and hurled insults at Jesus: “You were going
to tear down the Temple and build it back up in three days! Save yourself if
you are God's Son! Come on down from the cross!”
·
Matthew 27:45-50
At noon the whole country was covered with darkness, which lasted for
three hours. At about three o'clock Jesus cried out with a loud
shout, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God,
why did you abandon me?” Some of the people standing there heard him and said,
“He is calling for Elijah!” One of them ran up at once, took a sponge,
soaked it in cheap wine, put it on the end of a stick, and tried to make him
drink it. But the others said, “Wait, let us see if Elijah is coming to save
him!” Jesus again gave a loud cry and breathed his last.
Song: (to be determined)
He Came, He was Rejected, He
Suffered, He Died! But this was the plan
all along… For you and me He Died
He Rose Up From The Dead On The Third Day
·
Mark 16: 1-6 After the Sabbath was over, Mary
Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to go and anoint
the body of Jesus. Very early on Sunday morning, at sunrise, they went to
the tomb. On the way they said to one another, “Who will roll away the
stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” (It was a very large stone.) Then
they looked up and saw that the stone had already been rolled back. So
they entered the tomb, where they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing
a white robe—and they were alarmed. “Don't be alarmed,” he said. “I know you
are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is not here—he has
been raised!
He Is Risen !!!
Now, this same power that rose
Jesus from the dead is available and within all those who believe and are
filled with His Spirit. You do not have to die in your sins, You can have
eternal life as well.
